Galland visiting the tram construction site

On February 1st, at the invitation of our client Ferroway (formerly ETF), the Galland workshop team benefited from a guided tour of the extension of tram line A in Mérignac. An emblematic construction site for the Bordeaux metropolitan area and a beneficial feedback, our operators were able to discuss with the catenary installers the installation of our AEROs and our section insulators.

In what context did you make this visit?

Galland improves the skills of its employees by training them so that they have a better knowledge of the products. It is important that our operators know exactly in what conditions and with what constraints the elements that leave our workshop are installed. The visit to the construction site of the extension of tram line A to the airport met this requirement for training and open-mindedness.

Which parts of the construction site did you visit?

First, we visited the base camp where the parts are stored before being distributed to the construction site. Then, we went to the 4 Chemins crossroads, a strategic point characterized by the presence of numerous anchors. The site manager explained to us how the equipment is chosen according to the staking plan. We were able to observe how our AEROs and section insulators had been installed. Finally, we went to the tram terminus at the airport to study the anchor point of the contact wire at the end of the line.

What was the feedback from Galland operators?

This visit allowed a fruitful exchange for more than an hour between our operators and the Ferroway installer who detailed the type of products installed – the IS, the AEROs, some of which had monitoring – but also the difficulties that had been encountered. For our oldest employees, this trip was a first. They all learned a lot about assembling the parts and told us how proud they were to find the Galland equipment on the lines. Now, we would like to go further and organize visits to train lines, to Bordeaux station, for example, in order to observe how the catenary operators install our products, day and night.
